Therapy

Who Am I As A Therapist

I encourage mindfulness strategies during our work together, as I believe self awareness is key to identifying the sources of pain & the strengths we have to heal and grow. The goal of therapy is not to learn to suppress emotions, but to find ways to allow & experience our emotions without feeling as though they are drowning us or ruling our lives. My style is warm and down to earth. I love using humor, where we can, in sessions to break down anxiety and normalize the things we all struggle with. I will come from a place of non-judgment, but speak to you with no bullshit and no therapy jargon. In therapy, I support people in exploring options they didn’t realize they had in their lives and empowering them to chose what makes sense for them

I firmly believe that everyone could benefit from therapy at some point in their lives and I feel incredibly honored to have a career that is about helping people be the best version of themselves. I love working with people who are willing to examine the individual contributions to their lives and patterns, but also the larger systematic ones. I am passionate about breaking down mental health stigma and supporting people in learning to listen to their own gut and instincts to live their best possible life.

I graduated with my Masters in Social Welfare from SUNY Albany. I have also completed training as a Doula through the Family Life Center and my 200 hour level certificate as Yoga Teacher from the Yoga Vidya Teacher Training. Both of these trainings inform my therapy practice as well, as they taught me accessible and practical strategies for self care. I regularly attend trainings to grow my experience in the areas of play therapy, art therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness based strategies, and international social work.

In my personal time, I love drawing, knitting, reading and traveling.

A typical session is about 45 minutes long, with longer sessions being available as needed. During the initial phase, we will invest time in talking about what inspired you to begin therapy, what your goals are, and some of your background information. While we always talk about what you are willing to explore, I will ask some questions about your upbringing and relationships (even if it’s not what’s bringing you into therapy now) as it will help me get some context for who you are today. I like to take some brief notes during our first meeting, so I don’t have to repeat questions to you in follow up sessions, but otherwise I don’t typically write while we are meeting.

Therapy can be time-limited or an ongoing process of deep personal healing and growth. I will make recommendations to you about how often I think it would be best for us to meet in order to meet your therapeutic goals.
